What MozBar Shows in Your Browser

MozBar adds a moz toolbar to your browser. When you visit any page, it displays Moz's proprietary metrics. The most visible are Domain Authority and Page Authority. These are Moz's estimates of a site's or page's relative strength.

The extension also shows Spam Score, Brand Authority, and backlink counts. You can see these numbers for any page you visit. The toolbar works on search engine results pages (SERPs) too, adding metrics next to each result.

MozBar can highlight links on a page. It colours them by type: followed, nofollowed, internal, or external. This helps you quickly see a page's link profile without inspecting the HTML manually.

How to Use MozBar for SEO Work

Install MozBar from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons site. You need a Moz login to use it fully. Once installed, click the Moz icon in your browser toolbar to open the panel.

The most common use is SERP analysis. When you search Google, MozBar adds Domain Authority and other metrics next to each result. This lets you compare sites at a glance. You can also click a result to see more data about that page.

For competitor research, visit a competitor's page and check their link metrics. MozBar shows how many linking root domains they have. You can also inspect their on-page SEO: title tags, meta descriptions, headings, and image alt text.

Limitations You Must Know

MozBar's metrics are Moz's own estimates. Google does not use Domain Authority or Page Authority. Treat them as relative comparisons, not ranking factors. A high Domain Authority does not guarantee a high Google ranking. Google's algorithm updates, as tracked in moz google updates, may affect these metrics.

Common Mistakes When Using MozBar

The biggest mistake is treating Domain Authority as a Google ranking factor. It is not. Google has stated it does not use Domain Authority. Use it only for relative comparison between sites. For local SEO, consider the moz local listing score instead.

Another mistake is using MozBar as a complete SEO audit tool. It cannot replace tools like Screaming Frog or Sitebulb for technical audits. There are many SEO Tools available for comprehensive audits. MozBar shows surface-level data only.
